Data Loss or Corruptions

NW Scheduler is built with multiple redundancies to prevent data loss and corruption.

It is extremely rare for someone to lose data, and if it does happen it is almost always user error. Nevertheless, it can be a frustrating experience.

How to prevent and fix Data Loss or Corruptions

The most common reasons for data loss or corruptions are:

1. Not using Congregation Sharing correctly

Please ensure all brothers in your congregation understand how to use Congregation Sharing correctly. If any brother does not use it correctly, it can cause data loss for many others.

Please see Congregation Sharing Data or Syncing Problems for how to prevent and fix sharing problems.

For example, at a minimum you should:

  • Check the All Congregation Sharing Logs for the data that is missing. Who changed it?
  • Limit who has Edit access to data. You should only have MAX 2-3 people Edit any type of data, especially territories.
  • Ensure everyone with Edit access always uses the latest Minor Version and regularly updates NW Scheduler.
  • Try to PULL or PUSH the data.
  • Ensure everyone always CLOSES NW Scheduler properly after use (not just close laptop lid), etc.

2. Using a very old version of NW Scheduler

You must always keep NW Scheduler up to date. This is a strict requirement for using NW Scheduler. Updating NW Scheduler ensures your software remains secure, has the latest fixes and features, and are following the latest branch directions.

We recommend checking for and installing updates at least once a month, but you absolutely must check for and update NW Scheduler at a minimum once every 3 months. If you do not do this, you may lose data or have other data problems.

If you are currently using a very old version of NW Scheduler, i.e. a version more than 6 months old, you may lose data if you directly update to the latest version.

Please see Updating from a very old version of NW Scheduler for specific instructions.

3. Not using NW Publisher app correctly

Please ensure all brothers in your congregation understand how to use the NW Publisher app, including Sending App Data, Receiving and Import App Data.

Please see Common App Questions & Problems, Receive and Import App Data or Send App Data.

4. Computer or User Profile is corrupted or can't save data

NW Scheduler requires a standard Windows Local User Profile to function correctly.

Please see Problems Installing and Use a Standard Windows User Profile.

5. Data Maintenance

Expired or old data is automatically removed by NW Scheduler Data Maintenance.

  • For example, old Publisher Reports, Territory Assignments, Meeting Attendance Records are automatically deleted.

This is not a problem, but rather compliance with the Branch Data Retention Policy.

Please check the Data Logs to see if any data was deleted by Data Maintenance.

6. Bug in NW Scheduler

Bugs that cause data loss are extremely rare, and are usually fixed within hours of being reported.

Remember, data loss does not just randomly happen. If there really is a bug in NW Scheduler, the data loss will be verifiable and repeatable.

If you have found a verifiable and repeatable bug in NW Scheduler, please Contact Us. Be sure to include multiple, detailed full-screen screenshots clearly showing the bug.

How to Restore lost data

You can restore data when:

  • Any of your data is missing
  • Any data was accidentally changed or deleted
  • Transferring data to another computer
  • Your computer crashes or has problems, and you need to re-install NW Scheduler

Data can be restored either from Automatic Backup or a Manual Backup file.

Please see Restore Data for instructions on how to restore data.

If you have problems restoring data, please see Restore Data Problems

Important Information about your data

NW Scheduler creates an Automatic Backup each time the program is closed. This is saved on your local computer only.

We STRONGLY RECOMMEND you also REGULARLY create an OFFSITE backup to a portable USB drive in case your computer crashes, is damaged, stolen, or if your data is damaged or corrupted.

If you do not create an offsite backup, there may be no way to restore your data.

Please ensure you backup to an external location, for example: Portable USB drive, portable hard drive, a friends computer, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, etc.

NW Scheduler will periodically remind you to create an offsite backup. You can adjust the reminder frequency in Me > Settings. Please do not ignore this reminder!

Again: New World Scheduler does not store your data anywhere online, and we have no access to your data. You are responsible for your data and ensuring it is kept safe and backed up.

Please backup your data!
