Unlike Congregation Sharing, new assignments, duties, schedules or any other updates made in New World Scheduler are not automatically sent to the NW Publisher app. All data must be sent manually by the person who created it.
If there is any app data waiting to send, it will be indicated by a red alert next to both the App and Send App Data buttons.
To Send App Data, click App > Send App Data
It is strongly recommend to send any app data before closing New World Scheduler.
- Note: It is not possible to send changes to the App that someone else made. The brother responsible for creating or updating a schedule is also responsible for sending this data to the app.
- Note: Any brother who needs to Send App Data must be given User Access – NW Publisher app – View or Edit access. Please see User Access for more information.
Send Data to the App
When NW Publisher app data is created, updated or removed, it is added to the App Data to Send list. This must then be sent manually to the App.
- E.G. changing app settings, adding new persons, assignments, duties, updating Congregation Events, submitting congregation Field Service data, etc, all must be send to the app.
When you Send data to the App, two things happen:
- App Data is sent to ALL devices who should see the data
- Notifications are sent to SOME devices, depending on their settings and connection status. See Notifications sub-heading below.
Option 1: Prepare & Send (faster)
- Note: This option does not allow you to control who will receive Notifications.
- Click App > Send App Data
- Click Prepare & Send button
- All App Data and any App Notifications will then be sent to the app.
- Note: To see a list of App Devices that may receive notifications, please see Help > App Devices
- Note: See the App Logs for detailed information.
Option 2: First Prepare, then Send (slower)
- Note: This option does allow you to control who will receive Notifications.
- Click App > Send App Data
- Under Data to Send, select the data type you wish to send to the App.
- Note: Data must have a Count of more than 0 to be sent.
- Note: You can selected multiple data types at once.
- Click Prepare. This will prepare the data and generate a list of Notifications.
- Note: Some data types do not generate Notifications, e.g. Meeting or Field Service Schedules. Additionally, Notifications are only generated for devices that have connected and have notifications enabled.
- Note: Even if a notification isn’t sent, the data is still sent!
- Check the Notifications and Remove any you don’t wish to send.
- Note: See Notifications sub-heading below.
- Note: Click Remove All to remove all notifications.
- Note: Sometimes there will not be any notifications, depending on what data is being sent. This is normal.
- Click Send
- The data and any Notifications will then be sent to the App.
- Note: To see a list of App Devices that may receive notifications, please see Help > App Devices
- Note: See the App Logs for detailed information.
App Notifications
Before sending data to the App, you must first click Prepare. This will prepare the data and separately create a list of Notifications that will be sent with the data.
Notifications are generated when an Event, Announcement, Assignment or Duty is created, updated or removed. There is no way to manually create notifications.
- Note: To see a list of App Devices, including their Notification Status, please see Help > App Devices
Notifications are sent to the following mobile devices:
- Device is using the latest version of NW Publisher
- Device has already connected to the congregation and identified person.
- Device has not disabled Notifications.
- Device is not an Amazon or Huawei device. These devices cannot receive notifications as they don’t support Google Services.
- Data type affects that device, e.g. congregation-wide announcement, or their CLM Assignment.
- You have not manually Removed the notification or clicked Removed All
In the NW Publisher app Settings, publishers can choose to separately disable Congregation Notifications (including Events, Announcements and Person Information Check requests) and Schedule Notifications (including CLM Assignments, Weekend Assignments and Duties).
We recommend elders encourage publishers not to disable notifications. However elders should be careful not to send too many changes and updates, thus annoying publishers.
- Note: Even if publishers do not receive a notification, they still will receive the appropriate App data.
If elders want to control or limit who receives App Notifications, they should use Option 2: First Prepare, then Send to send app data.
Disabling Notifications
In the NW Publisher App Settings, publishers can choose to disable Congregation Notifications (including Events, Announcements and Person Contact Information Check requests) and/or Schedule Notifications (including CLM Assignments, Weekend Assignments and Duties).
We recommend elders encourage publishers not to disable notifications. However elders should be careful not to send too many changes and updates, thus annoying publishers and forcing them to disabled notifications.
If a publisher chooses to Disable Notifications, there is no way to send them a notification, they must manually open NW Publisher to see new Events, Announcements, Assignments and Duties.
- Note: If elders want to control or limit who receives App Notifications, they should use Option 2: First Prepare, then Send to send app data.
Some Notifications Fail to Send
- Note: Even if a notification is not sent, the App Data is still sent.
Notifications are only sent to a Mobile Device if the following is all true:
- Device is using NW Publisher App 1.2.8 or greater
- Device has already connected to the congregation and identified person
- Device is not a duplicate
- Device has not disabled Notifications
- Device is not an Amazon or Huawei device. These devices cannot receive notifications as they don’t support Google Services
- Data type affects that device, e.g. congregation-wide announcement, or their CLM Assignment
If some Notifications say Send Fail, try the following:
- Check if the person has multiple App Devices. If so, remove older or previous App Devices.
- Ensure the publisher is using the latest version of NW Publisher
- Ensure they have tapped Settings and enabled Notifications
- If they have, ask them to Disable and Re-Enable Notifications
- Apple iOS users: Ensure they have given NW Publisher permission to receive Notifications.
- Ask them to remove NW Publisher, and then reinstall.
- Check the Notification Logs for any extra information.
If a notification is still not being sent or received after performing all of the above, then there is nothing we can do. We cannot guarantee the delivery of a notification, since these are delivered by Apple and Google, and also depend on the users phone and users Settings.
- Note: Please see Common Questions and Problems – Reminders and Notifications for more information.
